BROADCASTING
VIDEO STORIES
Creating news packages was truly an area of journalism I dove into without any knowledge besides what I saw on the nightly news every day.
Nevertheless, I’ve always been passionate about visual storytelling, so on a whim at the grand opening of Gretna’s new YMCA, I put away my reporter’s pad and camera and took out my phone instead. Without a microphone, tripod, or any experience, I crafted a news package and had it posted within hours. That video took second place at state that year.
Now, creating news packages has become a defining part of my journalism experience, and I hope to continue doing so throughout my career.
GRETNA LIVE
As a senior producer in my school’s broadcasting program, Gretna Live, I do everything from training new staff on how to operate a camera and conduct interviews, to directing weekly news segments, crafting my own video stories, producing advertisements and public service announcements, conducting halftime interviews and running the video board and live streams at sporting events.
