ENRICHMENT
Al Neuharth Free Spirit & Journalism Conference
Washington D.C. — June 2025
I was selected as the Nebraska Scholar (one per state) to receive a $1,000 scholarship and attend the Al Neuharth Free Spirit and Journalism Conference in Washington, D.C. There, I learned from leading journalists, including Pulitzer Prize winner David Fahrenthold and CBS's Joie Chen, and toured newsrooms such as USA Today and The Wall Street Journal. Between classes and panels, I also experienced our nation's capital. I left with invaluable knowledge from the inspiring speakers and 50 new friends who share my passion for journalism.
Boston University Summer Journalism Academy
Boston — June & July 2024
At the BUSJA, I got a taste of professional reporting, the city of Boston, and, best of all, college. I was selected as one of 30 students to learn from BU professors and guest speakers at the BU College of Communication. Throughout this academy, I reported on real stories in the city, worked with the professors on editing and writing, while also making life-long friends and catching a Red Sox game.
Freelance Work
2024 —
Local journalist Dirk Chatelain and I are collaborating on his freelance work, producing content and assisting with reporting and research.
I have also written articles for local magazines and photographed local and personal events for clients.

JEA National High School Journalism Conventions
Kansas City — April 2024 Seattle — April 2025
At Nationals, I not only learned from industry professionals and networked with student journalists from across the country, but I also strengthened bonds with my own staff. From attending workshops and keynote sessions to competing in contests, we gained new skills and ideas to bring back to our newsroom. These trips brought me lasting memories with my favorite people.
Nebraska High School Press Association Summer Camp
University of Nebraska-Lincoln — July 2024
The summer before my first year at Gretna East, I attended the NHSPA Summer Camp to sharpen my skills and plan for the upcoming year. While completing the Newswriting course, I also started the foundation for The Wingspan. In the UNL dorms, The Wingspan’s name was created, and our staff began to take shape.
